Lehigh Valley Zoo is excited to announce the opening of a new habitat for red pandas! Rothrock Red Panda Peak opened to the public on June 7th! This habitat was designed to meet the standards of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), the zoo’s accrediting body. We worked closely with the AZA Species Survival Plan (SSP) to identify the best possible red pandas to welcome to our zoo. We are confident, Cosmo & Meeko, brothers born at Birmingham Zoo, will become fast favorites of our members, visitors and community.
We are excited to continue to bring in new and different species, ones that have not yet been a part of our zoo family. Support from our community is crucial to our success. Please help us reach our goal by making a donation to support the addition of this Asian species, native to the Himalayan region. Your meaningful gift is not only making an investment to welcome red pandas in 2024, but it is making an investment in the zoo’s ability to welcome new species in the future.
Red pandas are an endangered species, with a population reported to be less than 10,000 in the wild, as a result of deforestation, poaching, accidental trapping, and illegal pet trade. By providing a home for red pandas at Lehigh Valley Zoo, we will be focusing on the zoo’s vision of the conservation of the species, while educating our guests about the importance of wildlife conservation.
As part of this project, Lehigh Valley Zoo will support Red Panda Network, a conservation organization that works directly with local communities, empowering the people who live alongside red pandas to secure sustainable livelihoods and live harmoniously with local wildlife.
Symbolically adopt a red panda to help us welcome Red Pandas in 2024! Each ADOPT an Animal package comes with a lovable plush, a photo of the animal, an animal fact sheet, a certificate of adoption, and daytime admission tickets to the zoo!
You can purchase enrichment items and needed supplies from one of our wishlists and directly support our red pandas and keeper staff!
